Description

This beautiful Danish Georg Jensen sterling silver large marmalade or serving Spoon is from the ‘Acanthus’ pattern of his collection, which was released in 1917. The marking on the back of the spoon dates this piece of silverware to 1923. The spoon, and its handle has a pattern that hints to the Art Nouveau Style of that era. The pattern is nice and crisp and free of any dings. The scrolling lines near the top decorated finial and the bottom are a lovely decorative element that make this spoon even more pleasurable to serve with. The spoon is 6 inches long, weighs 35gms, and it is marked “925S”, “GEORG JENSEN”. And Import hall marks for George Stockwell, London 1923.  This is an excellent example of the three towers mark, denoting the year of its manufacture (1926) Also present is the 925 mark. The CFH stamp is actually a guardian stamp and was used between 1904 and 1932   Jensen was inspired by nature and the ideals of the Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts movement. In 1907, he began collaborating with the painter Johan Rohde in translating the forms of post-Impressionist painting into the medium of silver; the acanthus pattern we see here is his design with the fine Danish silver-work of Jensen.
